Earning from things you don't use: a host guide for Bengaluru
In short
List things people need for a few days and rarely buy: cameras and lenses, tents, consoles, projectors, party speakers, baby gear and power tools. Listing is free and you set the price; Lumo keeps a 15–20% service fee of the rental. Write what is in the box and hand over with photos. Lumo holds the renter's deposit and settles it after you confirm the return.
What rents, and when
- Camping gear from October to February, the trek season.
- Cameras, lenses and ethnic wear in wedding season, roughly November to February.
- Projectors and speakers around cricket finals, festivals and New Year.
- Consoles and VR headsets on long weekends and school holidays.
- Baby gear when families visit; power tools when people move into a new flat.
Price it
You set the price per day. The rental price guide at lumo.rentals/bengaluru/bazaar/prices shows the typical range for each type of thing in Bengaluru, which is a good place to start.
Listing is free. Lumo keeps a service fee of 15–20% of each rental.
Describe it so renters trust it
- Photos in daylight, from every side, and of every accessory.
- A description that lists what is in the box, the model and its condition, honestly. Listings with a real description of 80 characters or more can also appear in Google.
- Charge batteries and clean the item before every handover.
Handover, return and damage
You are notified when someone books; there is no approval step, so pause your listing in the app whenever you don't want bookings. Your listing shows your area, never your address. You both photograph the item at handover and at return in the app.
Lumo holds the renter's security deposit, not you, and settles it after you confirm the return. If something comes back damaged, report it in the app at return.
Cancellations
If a renter cancels more than 12 hours before 00:00 IST on the first rental day, they get 100% back. In the last 12 hours, Lumo keeps 10% of the rent and fees and the deposit comes back in full. If you cancel, the renter gets 100% back.
Invite a friend
When a friend you invite lists on Bazaar and their first item goes live, you each get ₹100 in Lumo wallet credit. Signing up alone doesn't earn credit, and vehicle listings don't count.
