Prohibited Items Policy

Effective 24 Oct 2026

Lumo is deliberately open: most everyday, hobby, event and professional things can be rented. But some things can't be listed or rented on Lumo, either because the law restricts them or because renting them between strangers isn't safe.

1. Items you can't list

  1. Weapons and ammunition, including airguns, replica or imitation firearms and parts for them, combat knives, and any blade sold or described as a weapon. Kitchen knives and knife sets sold as cookware, tools with blades (saws, garden and craft tools) and sports equipment are allowed.
  2. Alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, drugs (including recreational drugs) and drug paraphernalia.
  3. Prescription medicines and prescription medical devices (anything that needs a doctor's prescription to buy or use). Non-prescription mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and commodes are allowed.
  4. Live animals or any living creature.
  5. Counterfeit, pirated or stolen goods, or anything you don't own or aren't authorised to rent out.
  6. Adult or sexually explicit products.
  7. Hazardous materials: fuels, industrial chemicals, explosives, fireworks, compressed gas cylinders.
  8. Money and documents: currency, financial instruments, and any government identity document (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, licence and the like).
  9. Anything that needs a licence to rent out or to use that Lumo cannot verify.
  10. Anything whose sale, rental or possession is illegal in India or in Karnataka, or that has been recalled as unsafe.
  11. Motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles, scooters and other motorised vehicles) cannot be listed on Bazaar. E-bikes, e-scooters and other electric two-wheelers that do not need registration under the Motor Vehicles Act (low-speed models) are allowed.

2. Listing rules

  • Photos must show the actual item. Stock photos, watermarked images, and photos showing people's faces or personal details (addresses, documents, number plates) are sent back for review.
  • The title, category, description and condition must be true. Don't hide defects.
  • One listing per item, or per set of identical units.
  • No contact details, links or payment requests in listings. Bookings and payments happen in the app.
  • Don't post anything unlawful, obscene, defamatory, hateful, misleading, infringing, or harmful to children, as described in Rule 3(1)(b) of the IT Rules, 2021.

3. How Lumo enforces this

  • Every listing is screened automatically (including by AI on its photos) when it is created and when photos change. Most listings go live straight away and are spot-checked by people.
  • A listing screened as prohibited is blocked at once and cannot be made bookable again. A listing that is merely unclear is left live and checked by a person. We don't block on suspicion alone.
  • Lumo may also remove a listing after a user report, a court order or a government notice, within the time the law requires.
  • Hosts who list prohibited items, especially more than once, may have their listings paused or their account suspended. Illegal items may be reported to the police.
  • If you think we got it wrong, write to support or the Grievance Officer and a person will review it.
